Wardrobe Refashion part 2

I know, you’re wondering where’s part 1? Part 1 is a brown dress out of an op-shopped sheet that I started yesterday and got a bit flummoxed by the collar and lining of, let alone the help from the cat (pics to come)…so I thought I’d start by showing you my successful Wardrobe Refashion attempt.
Two op-shopped pillowcases (sorry Kirst! As I was cutting I thought of you and wondered if you’d be upset by me hacking into them!), a BASIC pattern, some Kutie goodness, and et voila! – a skirtaloon! (As HP and I call them.)
I used a very easy Butterick 3134 pattern: View B (and because I’m a dunderhead, I’ve left the pattern at home so I’ve grabbed the pic off their site – it’s the second from the left), and made it even easier by not putting on the waistband or putting in a zip. Yes, I used Gemma’s super-fantastic fold over elastic!

Cutting up sheet in progress:

My skirt has an extra seam down the middle panel, as it was supposed to be cut on the fold, but the pillowcases didn’t have enough room, so I used the side pillowcase seam as the centre skirt seam.

I would be wearing it right now, but it’s pouring rain out there, and rather freezing, so skirt will have to wait for a nice day.

Sew mojo?

Where are you? While cleaning out my crafting room a bit earlier, I found a scrap of fabric that I knew a Brown Owl girlie will like, so I proceeded to turn it into a little purse for her. But oh! my sewing! Crooked, wonky, you name it! Luckily HP hammered on the snap closure for me, otherwise I would have ballsed that up too. I have so much sewing I want to do, but when it comes down to sitting at the machine, I just can’t bring myself to do it!

Stuff on my desk

Sometimes I can pretend I’m in another era.

Here’s where my head’s at today

Over at Pod Bobbins, (my craft blog where I try and restrain myself to just blogging about my projects rather than going about any random crap on my mind) I’ve been waffling on about how the stitching bug has not only bitten me, but has tore away major chunks of flesh! I just went walkabout at lunchtime to Spotlight (who have just got in more Japanese fabric, including a psuedo floral spotty patchwork one) and Lincraft (who also have a couple of cute Japanese fabrics, one with owls and one with beach balls) in search of some linen to embroider. This is because I found some seriously good vintage patterns by Floresita on Flickr. (Go to Pod Bobbins if you want more links.) Vintage chickens, kitties and birdies! Squee!

Monday Monday…

Here’s a nice contrast pic for you, raining on Friday, bright and sunny Monday:

The weekend was quite goodly, although I was in a blue funk until Sunday afternoon.  Even fun shopping and nice coffee couldn’t cheer me.  As part of the shopping though, I indulged myself and picked up a copy of the Softies book (more info, including links to contributors on this post by Pip).  Here are some of my favourites from the book, I think I like the ones that are more off-beat rather than cutesy poo. Cats:

and a wee housie:

Sunday afternoon I was in a crafting frenzy, finishing my bags for Mike’s before I went to their stitching night.  Here’s a shot of a pile o’ finished bags:

And Sunday evening was spent at Stitching Night, where I started work on a teatowel as a pressie, met Pip, Justine, Nikki and lots of other lovely bobbins girls, and came home with a oilcloth purse from a door prize and a nice blue pear as a stitching gift:

(Also in the pic the aforementioned Softies book.)

The tea towel is a pressie for a swap buddy, I ended up using a Sublime Stitching transfer, so my space babes are a-go-go!

Definitely going back for another stitching night one day! Now I’m off in search of a decent coffee…

Wish Flags

Saturday morning I made these for a swap-bot “Wish Flag” swap…they’re based on the Buddhist prayer flags, but as we’re going non-religious here, they’re wish flags.  I decided to send all my partners love (oh, and polka dots).
