Wandering around…

K-Mart at lunchtime, I was checking out their plain linen placemats, tea towels and pillowcases.  A quick caluculation showed me that it costs me less to buy a set of 4 ready made placemats and embroider them, rather than buy the fabric and make my own.  So I’ll be back to purchase some on payday, and get a-stitchin’!

I do not condone sweatshop labour but theres still a lot to be said for the prices it produces. That sounds so mean but you know what I mean. Theres no incentive to make when you can buy ready made.

I did consider the sweat shop aspect of it, and then I started asking myself, is the fabric I buy to embroider on produced in a sweat shop environment as well? I have no idea, and then my brain started to hurt. I was looking at the placemat sets in Target today, and my workmanship is much better than the edges and seams on their products. So due to my lack of knowledge, I haven’t drawn a line in the sand and said “I’m never buying THIS and I’m not buying THIS.” I also buy my clothes and towels and sheets ready made too…so as I said, I don’t know where to draw the line.
    Any suggestions appreciated. :)
