Cannot brain today

more cat pictures

Not at work today, I feel like I’m getting the flu, so I opted for a day under the covers and on the couch.  HP pointed out to me that I’ve lost all motivation for my boring-arse job, and wonders if I should find something more rewarding.  I’m in my current job because I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I left school, so I went to uni, and then after uni, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I sort of fell into a job in the public service.  I don’t hate my job or workplace at all, but yep, it bores me shitless.  However there is a conundrum, if I tried to reduce my office hours and persue something I enjoy such as crafting…would I still enjoy it?  Or would it just become a case of having to make stuff regularly to keep the wheels turning round (assuming people want my stuff) and it all becoming a chore?

As the LOLcat says, "I have the dumb" so I’ll just keep on keeping on.

Speaking of LOLcat goodness, Carin pointed me to this interesting post discussing the universally loved phenemenon that is LOLcats.  Go lookee.

I hears ya loud and clear…I think you deserve a day on the couch.

Poor you! Hope you are feeling better soon.

I sympathise on the whole dead end boring arse job. I left mine and have been trying to craft for the last month (as part of my 2 month experimental sabbatical).

Having taken the break, I can say it’s the best thing to have done, mainly because my old work was toxic and vicious. but when it comes time to find a new job, I’ll be pushing for a lower level and part time. I work to live. I don’t live to work.

    Good luck with your thinking!

Before I became a full time stay-at-home mum I was also a public servant (for about 10 years), and I SO know what you mean. Must admit though….I don’t miss it. And I’ve been away over 4 years now.SHEEESH – that’s a long time isn’t it. I planned on going back after a year too….he he…Anyway, I hope you are feeling ok, and that the flu-thing has been kicked to the curb (girlfriend)…What the??? Since when did I become American???. Sorry, I think I also have the dumb today…it’s been a long day…

It’s a hard one – deciding what to do with our lives. I’ve battled the same questions and still am. The conundrum about whether hobbies become a chore when you pursue them as a career is a difficult one too.

I’ve read a few things by an author called Barbara Sher who I liked a lot.

Thanks everyone…I’m still mulling it all over in my head. I definitely think the first step is to try and go part time, just have to work out the logistics of it all.
Big Cat – I love that one of her books is called “I could do anything if only I knew what it was” !!
