This is …what I’m listening to at the moment

Or rather, what I’m obsessively listening to.  On vinyl of course. I tend to go through phases where I need to hear a particular album at least 3 times a day, and then I won’t listen to it at all for months. Sorry if I bore you with my lyric love and songs and musical ramblings,
but music is one of the things without which, I would go totally
insane.  Maybe this "this is" should be "this is one of the things I can’t live without".  Anyway, back to the album:
Whosnext

So I dug this old chestnut out of the pile the other day, after being inspired by one of those documentaries where they show you "the making of" the particular album on Vh1.  I do groan when I hear it described as "classic rock", and obviously I don’t need to tell anyone that this is one of the greatest albums EVAH, and that everyone should own a copy.   And I do have a bit of a thing for Roger Daltrey, think it was all the blonde curls or something.  Singing along to ‘Baba O’Riley’ really loudly amuses me, and the lyrics to ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ are some of my favourites:
No one knows what it’s like

To be the bad man

To be the sad man

Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it’s like

To be hated

To be fated

To telling only lies

But my dreams

They aren’t as empty

As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely

My love is vengeance

That’s never free

No one knows what it’s like

To feel these feelings

Like I do

And I blame you

No one bites back as hard

On their anger

None of my pain and woe

Can show through

But my dreams

They aren’t as empty

As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely

My love is vengeance

That’s never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open

Before I use it and lose my cool

When I smile, tell me some bad news

Before I laugh and act like a fool

If I swallow anything evil

Put your finger down my throat

If I shiver, please give me a blanket

Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it’s like

To be the bad man

To be the sad man

Behind blue eyes
(Pete Townsend)
They do illustrate why I like lyrics as poetry so much, as although they were written for a totally different character to the one that’s conjoured up in my mind, some of the phrases do touch me personally, and I can relate.
This_is_button

This week’s "this is" theme suggested by Three Buttons, home of this is … thanks for the "free form" theme, thereby giving me the opportunity to be self-indulgent yet again.

By the way, Cam’s this is effort is a ripper, a tale of blowing into the bag, and wees.

I must say that I also love a great lyric…they just don’t write songs like they used to (geez Louise I sound really old when I type things like that).
I’m glad you liked my wee story….that must be the third time I’ve been pulled over this year and I haven’t had a drink for years!

    Hi
How’s your cardigan coming along? Will you be having a final post about it for the Tour de France KAL? There’s still time to write about it on the TdeFKAL blog if you do.
    Bye for now
    Shirley
